Yup, Mitt Romney is right. "This president doesn’t understand the genius of America’s economy or the secret of the American economic success story. The American economy is fueled by freedom."
And here is that story.
Hundreds of years ago, American businessmen and entrepreneurs had the freedom to kidnap Africans and enslave them on cotton farms, which fueled the US economy. The American consumers, well, they had the freedom to boycott cotton if they didn't like it. It's called a self-regulating market, people. More freedom. Later, the slaves were free to continue working on the farms to pay off insurmountable debts accrued from no longer being slaves, or they could wander off into the woods or something. More freedom. Then later, American businessmen and entrepreneurs built huge factories were they had the freedom to pay the employees anything they wished! And they were also free to make the workers work all day, every day. And if the workers didn't like it, they could work at some other factory with the same conditions. More freedom.
But then the bad government came in and took away this freedom. They made the factory owners do things, like make their factories safe and tolerable, and whenever the government makes someone do something, that's anti-freedom. Well, despite decades of prosperity, the economy would have probably been even more awesome if the bad government hadn't gotten involved, I'm sure.
But then later, a new era of freedom came along, where investment firms were given the freedom to pawn off hidden junk mortgages to banks in the form of credit default swaps and walk away with billions before the housing market exploded. That's super freedom.
So yeah. Obama just understand the genius of the American economy. He just doesn't get how the American economy is fueled by freedom.
